 July 9, 2016 – Basic Skills Paddle Canada Course (full day), Cost $180

kayakThis full-day “Basic Kayak Skills” Paddle Canada course introduces beginners to paddling a kayak in calm sheltered water. Topics and activities include: safety, kayak design, how to get in and out of a kayak (including wet exits), retrieving a swamped kayak, assisted rescues, forward and reverse paddle strokes and sweep strokes, draw strokes, low braces, etc… – a perfect course for those wanting to paddle with confidence on longer trips.

After taking this course you will have the prerequisite to move onto the Kayak Tripping Level 1 course being offered in August (see below)!

Bring your own kayak or you can rent one from Montreal River Outpost at a special rate.

Jeff Roe, a certified Paddle Canada Instructor, will be your coach and motivator for this course.

July 10, 2016: Intro to Kayaking Clinic (half day), Cost: $110

This half-day Introkayak to Kayaking course is a shorter version of the full-day Basic Kayak Skills Paddle Canada course. This course is geared towards those that don’t have time for a full-day course or aren’t sure if kayaking is for them. Basic skills are covered in this course to get you our on the water safely but is not designed to be a comprehensive intro course. Skills and activities covered include: how to launch a kayak, how to get back in your kayak after falling out and basic strokes will be introduced.

Bring your own kayak or you can rent one for a special rate from Montreal River Outpost.

July 25 – July 29, 2016 – Camp KICKS (Kids into Canoeing, Kayaking and Stand-up Paddle Boarding)

This 2 hour a dakayaky paddle camp is run through Gordon Denny Community School for ages 9-12.  At Camp KICKS, kids will learn a different paddle sport each day – canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding.  Emphasis is on learning through fun games while learning how to paddle smart and safe.

August 12-14, 2016 – Kayak Tripping, Cost $600 per person

kayakColdpspring Paddling from Saskatoon is excited to bring you a kayak tripping course set in beautiful northern Saskatchewan! This 3 day course will be start near the town of La Ronge and, after establishing some fundamental skills, will set off onto Lac La Ronge for 2 nights of camping among its myriad bays, islands and peninsulas. With 2 instructors (Jim Macdonald & Bryan Sarauer) you will have lots of opportunity to learn from their wide array of knowledge and experience. The sea kayak is well-suited to travel on Lac La Ronge, our own inland sea.

This course will be based on the Paddle Canada Level 1 Skills course with an additional tripping component. Participants that successfully achieve the L1 or Basic Kayak standard of skills will receive the certification to match those achievements.
